The lifespan of a system is determined by multiple factors, such as the type of unit, brand, amount of use and how well maintained it is. Generally, the average lifespan for good quality, well maintained unit is between 10 and 25 years. Of course, this varies dependent on climate too.

How much does a HVAC system cost?

HVAC system costs are determined by many factors, such as size, efficiency rating, unit location and manufacturer. This means, costs will always need to provided on a case by case basis.

HVAC system costs also differ dependent on whether its for a residential or commercial property. For example a HVAC system for a residential property of 110m² will be significantly cheaper than a HVAC system for a commercial unit with a space of 2,000m².

How long does HVAC installation take?

A typical HVAC installation for heating and air conditioning can take around three days to be completed depending upon multiple factors. However, it really comes down to the system chosen, the system size and the property in which the HVAC system is being installed, which can vary the installation time. 

A HVAC system for large office spaces and multiple floor installations will take longer than a typical residential property. 

When should I replace my HVAC system?

It is advised that HVAC systems should start to be replaced from the 10 year mark for maximum efficiency; however, more modern systems can last longer, around 20 years or so, especially if you have had regular maintenance checks throughout its lifetime.

The typical signs to look out for are things such as your unit being around 20 years old, your energy prices going up beyond the recent increase, rooms are heating up when they shouldn’t be, you experience moisture build-up or humidity issues and lastly, your system has become louder than usual and begun emitting an odd smell.

Is it worth replacing your duct work?

If your duct work is more than 15 years old then it’s a good idea to replace it. Duct work has a maximum lifespan of around 20 - 25 years however, from the 15 year mark the duct will start to deteriorate and thus, reducing the efficiency of your HVAC system.
